This week’s Israeli Tennis Championships sees the country’s top players competing in Ra’anana, including Shahar Peer and Dudi Sela, who are expected to win the women’s and men’s titles respectively

Peer, who finishes this year at No. 30 in the world rankings, comfortably defeated 16-year-old Liat Zimmerman 6-4, 6-1 in Monday’s first-round. After the match, she said: “This is what I had hoped for in my first match since the offseason started. I enjoyed myself and I’m here to win the tournament.”

Dudi Sela, No. 43 in the world and Harel Levy (119) are expected to challenge for the men’s title.

Andy Ram will play with coach Noam Behr in the doubles after regular partner Yoni Erlich pulled out injured.
