Head powers to victory

Teenager Shachar Head maintained her excellent run of form by winning double gold at the British
Drug Free Powerlifting Federation’s British Championships in Glasgow.

Head, who won the JC-sponsored Young Sportsperson of the Year at the Maccabi GB Sports Awards, set three world records on her way to glory.

The 15-year-old from Newton Abbot in Devon improved as the event progressed to set world bests for her age group and weight category of 77.5kg in the bench press and a deadlift of 152.5kg. She achieved a total lift of 350kg and was the best teenage female lifter on the day.

Head will now concentrate on her GCSE exams before preparing for the Drug Free World Championships in Boston in October.
