Hartsbourne top of the Glancy tree once again

articlemain

Hartsbourne regained the Glancy Trophy following an impressive performance at Bonnyton Golf Club in Glasgow.

Captained by Richard Sacker, Hartsbourne were also represented by Mark Gershinson, Harrison Baum, Josh Ralton, Mark Posniak, Mark Cohen, Damon Statt, Conrad Jaffe and Jeremy Bohn. They fared best on a course known for small fast greens where positional play off the tee is key and the overall scores reflected the difficulty.

A very solid foursomes performance featured a round of 77 from Cohen and Baum which put Hartsbourne comfortably in the lead.

Rain interrupted play for a short while; the tournament ran smoothly although the competitors were greatly troubled by the marauding midges.

The foursomes gross competition was won by the father and son partnership of Barry and Oliver Rubinstein of Notts & Sheffield JGS. Gerry Boobis and David Gilman of North East JGS took the net prize.

The tournament reverted to singles on Sunday and some fine play from Louis Leveson of WAGOS saw him home in 73 gross. He edged out Hartsbourne’s Jeremy Bohn by a single shot while Jerrard Winter of North West London JGS retained the trophy won last year for the best net score of 70.

While Dyrham Park won both gross and net aggregate singles prizes, they were unable to prevent Hartsbourne regaining the prized Glancy Trophy for the lowest aggregate of the gross singles and foursomes scores. They triumphed by seven shots from Leeds JGS. Dyrham Park, last year’s Glancy winners, secured the Edmondstown Cup for the combined aggregate of the net scores.

The competition brought together the best golfers from the Clubs and Societies affiliated to the Association of Jewish Golf Clubs and Societies.

An AJGCS spokesman said: "We recognise the continued importance of clubs that are experiencing reducing Jewish membership in hosting the Glancy and look forward to welcoming old and new friends at Dyrham Park in 2016."

Hartsbourne were also victorious in the two-day Junior Bowl, with Michael Griffiths, Gaby Rishover, Josh Buchhardt and Harrison Baum all collecting silverware.
