More than 150 golfers representing 19 clubs and societies competed over the weekend. Each affiliated squads of eight male players competed for gross and nett team and individual prizes with the teams split into two divisions, A and B, based on aggregate handicaps of the players.

Foursomes was the format for the first day and the pristine Dyrham Park course bared its teeth with many of the players struggling with the unusually fast greens.

Harrison Baum and Marc Cohen, Hartsbourne returned the best gross score, 76, and received the Whitefield Cup, whilst the Whitefield Cup for the best net return was won by the father and son pairing of Ian and Oscar Land, Moor Allerton.

On the team event the overnight leaders in both the net and gross competitions where 3 out of the 4 scores count was Hartsbourne.

Sunday’s singles proved no less difficult for the competitors although Peter Steele, North West London Jewish Golf Society, mastered the conditions to win the Potters Bar Bowl with a net score of 68.

The best individual golf of the weekend was produced by Ricky Curtis representing the host club. Over many years in various competitions, Ricky has proved himself to be a top quality competitor and his score of 71 beat both Barry Green, Abridge and Jonny Lawrence, Moor Allerton, by 2 shots and take home the Hartsbourne Cup

Barnet swept the board in the B division team prizes winning both South Essex Trophy, best net and Southport trophy for best gross. Both calculated on 6 best out of eight singles and best three out of four foursomes.

Dyrham won both the net team prize and were runners up to the winners of the Glancy trophy, Hartsbourne who were 12 shots clear on a score of 706, best 6 singles and best 3 foursomes.

Gary Joseph, the Hartsbourne Club captain, said: “We were delighted to retain the Glancy Trophy. It was a great competition played in the best of spirits between teams from England, Scotland, Wales & Ireland who are a part of the Association of Jewish Golf Clubs and Societies.

"Our team put on a tremendous display over the tournament picking up six trophies, including the main prize.

"We also had a tremendous team spirit which included all our caddies, some of whom would have been automatic picks for other Glancy teams and loads of support from the members who came to Dyrham."

Reflecting on the event overall, Joseph said: “The Glancy Tournament is a great institution which bonds golfers and supporters across the UK & Ireland and I am immensely proud to have been Captain of the winning team. Many thanks to Dyrham Park for looking after everyone so well."

The prizes were presented by the wife of the Club Captain, Mrs Sandra Joseph, other than the final two trophies which were presented by Mrs Rachel Futerman, wife of the newly elected President of The Association, David Futerman.

Dyrham were exemplary hosts, providing wonderful hospitality and a superb golf course. The Club also hosted a dinner on Saturday night at the Watford Hilton, attended by over 350 who were treated to a record 10 songs performed by the teams with the winners being WAGOS.

Next year’s Glancy Cup will be held at Dunham Forest in Manchester.
