JC MSFL Division 2:
Southgate Harmen B 3 Rapid Banta 2

On a grey day in North London, the B's of Southgate recorded their second straight 3-1 victory.

Goals from the two Simons were enough to see the day ended in delight for Southgate, as they only gave up a goal after a penalty.

Elliot 'Vern' Gordon gave the team a great deal of cover, sweeping up behind the back four of Engel, Dreifuss, Taylor and Sasto, who all defended very effectively throughout the morning.

In midfield Starr and Teacher were supported out wide by Paul gold and Simon White. Up top Russell Becker played his first game in seven months, and Simon Gold was full of running. It was good to see Lethbridge return to the fold with a place on the bench.

The goals came from Simon Gold to start with. Teacher played a quick first time pass to Gold who found himself in on goal. His touch was good and he struck solidly into the bottom corner.

Harmen took their feet off the pedal though after the goal and Banta must have been gutted not to be going into the break at least level. They played much of the football after going behind, and this was discussed by the Southgate boys at the break.

After the interval Southgate again started the stronger. This culminated in White's cross-cum-shot finding a way into the back of the onion bag.

History repeated itself though as Banta came back into the game. They pulled one back from the penalty spot, after Taylor was adjudged to have fouled. It might have been wet out, but the dive which gained the penalty was right off the three metre board. Vern almost got there, diving the right way.

Lethbridge came in for Becker and Southgate went 4-1-4-1 to protect a lead. It was a good call as the team looked very solid in the last 20 minutes. So solid in fact Southgate went up field to wrap things up. Simon Gold doubling his tally for the morning as he finished well again.

Thanks to Little Vern for supporting the team, and the Chairman for running the line. Southgate Harmen B can next be seen in the cup next Sunday. Please call the club for ticket information.
