Hard work has paid dividends, says Oakwood boss

Alex Schock, the joint-manager of Oakwood, says that promotion is just reward for six years of hard work after the club clinched a return to the Premier Division with a thumping 6-0 win over title rivals Chigwell in Walthamstow.

Strikes from Brad Wine, Eddie Manson, Josh Rubin, Dan Geey, James Abrams and Dan Ash started the party and helped the Oaks put one hand on the Division One title.

A one-sided affair saw the Oaks extend their winning run to seven league matches and an 11th success in the league this season.

It marked a third win in all competitions over Chigwell this season and puts a huge dent in the east Londoners' promotion hopes.

Schock told JC Sport: "It was a fantastic day for the club. All the hard work over the last six years or so has paid off and we have finally gained promotion to the Premier League after a thumping win against a decent Chigwell outfit.

"It was a pretty convincing 6-0 win really, and but for some wasteful finishing it could honestly have been double that.

"We dominated from start to finish and played some lovely football. We moved the ball round well, there was some excellent build-up play, our shape was great, our full-backs pushed on and many more positives that could be mentioned.

"There were some fantastic individual performances, notably Dan Geey and Josh Rubin, who were playing centre midfield, alongside Josh Rose who was also excellent. Everyone played well to be honest and contributed to the drubbing."

Schock spoke about the selection problems that both he and co-boss Ric Blank were faced with. "Ric and I have had to make some really tough decisions in the last few months," he said.

"Our squad is much bigger than it was last season and in the early part of this season, so naturally there are always some disappointed people each week.

"We have strength in depth and everyone brings something different to the team which is fantastic for Ric and I.

"Competition for places is strong and is the reason why yesterday was our 10th straight victory in all competitions, which is an unbelievable achievement at this level.

"We allowed ourselves to celebrate at the final whistle, but our thoughts turn to the Morrison now.

"We'll start as underdogs against South Manchester, but we'll give it a real go.

"We have lots of connections to South and the other northern teams and it will be a special occasion.

"We'll return to league action in a few weeks when we will look to confirm ourselves as champions ... hopefully there will be more bubbly on the way, but we know we have to be on it at this level as anything can happen if you lose focus."

Chigwell player-manager Richard Slater told JC Sport: "I was embarrassed from what I saw on Sunday."
