Grant soars to Southern Premier success

Shaftesbury Barnet Harrier George Grant, 14, achieved an emphatic pole vault victory in the Southern Premier Division in Basildon, recording an outdoor personal best of 3.20m.

His team-mate Rebecca Hurley, 14, cut her 300m best to 46.87 at the same meeting. Jessica Hurley, 13, demonstrated her versatility by placing second in the long jump at the Eastern Young Athletes League in Watford, recording 4.54m.

Trafford AC sprinter Ellie Edwards, 16, recorded 63.3 for 400m in the National Junior League in Middlesbrough, in her first outing over the distance.

Cardiff athlete Nathaniel Lane placed 244th in the London Marathon in 2:42:03, while Natan Bloom, Sam Shindler-Glass and Ben Hatch all achieved high placings in their London Mini Marathon races.

Michael Bower finished 41st out of 300 youngsters in the junior race. Having finished as the second fastest qualifier from Harrow, the Immanuel College pupil beat his personal best to cross the line in the 5km race in 16:40.
