Avram Grant has dismissed reports that he may soon be drafted in as manager of Portsmouth to replace Tony Adams.

"Portsmouth is not the team I am dreaming about," said Grant. "I was never in the frame to take over. I think the British media have linked me with every job going whether it's Manchester City, West Ham, Spurs or Newcastle."

Grant said the fact that Portsmouth owner Alexandre Gaydamak is a friend had no relevance to his future job prospects. "Roman Abramovich is a friend and look what happened," he remarked. "After Chelsea I want a club that offers me a challenge. A club where I can win championships and trophies. Portsmouth is not such a challenge.

"I think everybody will be very surprised at the next job that I get. But you'll just have to be patient to find out where it is. I'd very much like to work in England again but it has to be the right challenge. And if I can only find that elsewhere in Europe, then my next job might not be in England."

Betar Jerusalem owner Arkady Gaydamak, the father of the Portsmouth owner, has been barred from leaving Israel by a Petach Tikvah court. Under investigation for money laundering, Gaydamak would need to pay $5 million in cash, guarantees and assets to go overseas.
