Grant in contention for USA job

articlemain

Avram Grant was believed to be on a two-man shortlist for the role of national manager of the USA football team.

Grant is currently in charge of Ghana although there have been unsubstantiated reports that he has been relieved of his duties following the recent defeat to Egypt in the World Cup qualifiers. The Israeli recently confirmed he will leave his post with after the African Cup of Nations at the start of 2017.

Having taken only one point from their last two games, Grant has been criticised for the team’s poor performances, although he insisted the players were still behind him.

"We still have 12 points to play for and anything can happen in football,” he said.

“We will not give up until the last moment as you saw the players today, they were fighting until the end."

Grant has previously managed at Chelsea, Portsmouth and West Ham.

UPDATE: Bruce Arena was confirmed as Jurgen Klinsmann's replacement as USA coach on Tuesday night.
