Camila Giorgi offered no excuses after tumbling out in the third round of the Ladies Singles.

Giorgi, 23, went on to Court 1 with impressive victories over Lara Arruabarrena and Teliana Pereira under her belt but she was far from her best against the fifth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki.

An error-strewn performance saw the Italian send down nine double faults. “I struggled to find my rhythm and made too many errors,” said Giorgi. “I missed a lot of chances and wasn’t solid on the important points.

"I know I have many areas of my game to improve on so I will go home, take some time off and start again."

Wozniacki said: “I was very happy to win this one. Camila is such a tricky opponent who hits the ball so hard. I was really pleased how I managed to keep my composure in the end."

Giorgi’s father, Sergio, believes his daughter is a “future Wimbledon champion”. “I’m very proud of her,” he said. “She started playing aged five and I believe she can go all the way.

"She’s fit, has great anticipation and has the fastest feet of any player on the circuit.”

There is a strong sporting pedigree in the Giorgi family, with Camila’s brother, Amadeus, on the books of Greek football giants Panathinaikos.
