Gee quits Haroldeans

MJSL champions Haroldeans are looking for a new manager following the resignation of Ivan Gee.

Gee, who turns 75 next week, has spent the best part of 25 years with the Merseysiders and led them to the league title last season.

But Gee believes he is leaving his role at the right time and says the moment has come for an injection of youth at the top.

“It’s something I’ve been mulling over for quite a while now and I just felt it was the right time to go,” he said.

“I’m 75 next week and I want to be able to pick and choose when I stand out in the rain.

“It’s time for someone younger to take over the day-to-day running of the club.

“I’ve had a fantastic time at Haroldeans over the years and won everything there is to win apart from the Peter Morrison Trophy, which is a shame.

“But I’ll still be in the background at the club and happy to help whoever takes over."

Fraser Saville and Tony Cross will take temporary charge with pre-season training scheduled to start next week.

But Saville is keen to bring in a new manager before the start of the new season with a couple of candidates already catching the eye.

He said: “I’m already talking to a couple of people outside of the club and I hope to have someone in before the start of the season.

"Ivan has been great to work with and will remain on the club's board and will be at some of the games.

"But we want to get some of the younger lads involved and hopefully that will work out."
