Futsal trio called up for Centre of Excellence

articlemain

Jon Kurrant expressed delight after three players from his Maccabi GB squad were selected for the London Regional Centre of Excellence for Futsal.

Under Kurrant, Dean Benzaken, Jonah Gordon-Boyd and Sam Sollosi have made big strides, helping the team maintain an unbeaten record in the London Futsal League Division Two South.

Kurrant said: "It shows the quality and depth of Jewish futsal, and if boys are committed and train hard, there are high-level avenues to access.

"The boys have a foot in the door for London Regional Centre of Excellence, their next step is to cement and keep that place."

Kurrant described Benzaken as "a great passer of the ball who reads the game well". He added: "Dean starts and creates attacks with his decision-making, becoming a tenacious playmaker in the cierre and winger positions."

Sollosi has adapted well to the small-sided indoor game, as well as starring in the MGBSFL this season. "Sam is very skilful with the ball," commented Kurrant. "He is very dangerous in one-on-one situations and what goes unnoticed is his dogged displays defensively.

The manager praised Gordon-Boyd for having "the gift of drifting deceptively quickly over five metres which makes him hugely influential".
