Furman: Bring on the giants

articlemain

Dean Furman has set his sights on a mouth-watering showdown with a Premier League giant after firing Oldham Athletic into the second round of the FA Cup.

The Latics captain was on target as his side beat Burton Albion 3-1 at Boundary Park to set up a home clash with either Preston North End or Southend United.

Midfielder Furman is now hoping to guide Oldham into the third round where the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all enter the competition.

"I would love the chance to play against a Premier League club because that's what you want to do as a footballer," he said.

"You want to test yourself against the best and it would be great to do that and show people what you can do.

I would love to play against a Premier club

"I'd just love to play against any Premier League club, but it's not just about the players, it's about the fans and the club because it's so crucial financially.

"The FA Cup is exciting for everyone at the club and even watching the draw and knowing you're in it is great.

"Now we just have to make sure we remain focused and then get ready for a very tough game against a good Preston team or a Southend side flying in League Two."

Shrewsbury's Joe Jacobson is also looking forward to the prospect of taking on one of the game's big names after his team defeated Newport County in last Saturday's televised game.

The League Two side will take on Rotherham in the next round.

"Rotherham are a good side but we're always confident at home where we know we can get the ball down and pass around the other team," he said.

"If we can get through and play a big team then the chairman and the fans will be very happy."
