Fever pitch: rules on violence to be tightened

Final whistle - then players come to blows

MJSL chiefs are ready to crack down on clubs who fail to control their players following the latest outburst of violence.

Westdene 2nd and Sporting JLGB were involved in ugly clashes at the end of a bad-tempered league game as the MJSL's reputation was dragged through the mud once again.

Hyde Park Rovers were reprimanded earlier in the season after receiving a number of red cards, while the league has raised doubts over a lack of discipline shown by teams and players.

While the Football Association examine the brawl between Westdene 2nd and Sporting, the MJSL are already lining up a plan of action.

League secretary Paul Rose was set to address the issue at a league meeting last night (Thursday).

"Every club will be represented and they will hear a very stern message from us," he said.

"At the moment, the poor behaviour and discipline is a huge concern and we need to stamp it out. Teams need to know they will be fined and it will become very expensive for them.

"People need to respect each other and the referee. We've had a lot of players sent off and now we have two teams who have never been in trouble in the news for the wrong reasons.

"I want the teams to understand that this reflects badly our league. The sponsors won't be happy because we should be busy talking about all the positive things we're doing.
