Evans rewarded as Israel finish fifth

articlemain

Josh Evans was named Most Valuable Player in the tournament as Israel finished a credible fifth at the ICC European Under 19 Division 2 event in the Isle of Man.

Israel finished the competition strongly, beating Spain by 180 runs in the fifth place play-off

Having won the toss, Spain invited Israel to bat first in what were initially damp and foggy conditions.

The Israel innings got off to a disastrous start, with opener Michael Cohen departing to the first ball of the innings.

As the sun began to shine, the runs began to flow. Josh Evans smashed 57, whilst Nir Dokarker scored a fine 68 from 74 balls to take Israel's total to 232-7 from 50 overs.

In reply, Spain soon collapsed to 19-7, with Shalom Kristi taking four wickets and Shifron Waskar taking three.

A late order recovery was not enough, and Spain were bowled out for 52.
