London Lions suffered their first defeat of the season as they bowed out of the Aubrey Cup with a 2-1 defeat against Lemsford.

Lying third and unbeaten in five matches in the Herts Senior County League Premier Division, the Lions, who were missing six regulars, were left to reflect on two woeful defensive errors.

Tony Gold's men fell behind inside two minutes but second half substitute Dominic Cheniart levelled things eight minutes after coming on.

Adam Myeroff and substitute Daniel Green spurned good openings as the Lions failed to take the tie into extra time.

Gold said: "All in all it was a very frustrating afternoon with the less said the better.

"The biggest positive was that no league points were dropped. We look forward to having four players back for the home match against Bovingdon on Saturday.

Lions' second string claimed their first victory of the HSCL Reserve Division One season with a 4-1 success at Sarrat. Daryl Phillips (2), Tim Becker and Bradley Lazarus were their marksmen.

The manager of the month curse struck Wingate & Finchley as Michael Stone's men lost two matches in three days.

After winning their FA Cup preliminary round replay 4-0 against Northampton Spencer, the Blues lost their 100 per cent record in the Ryman League Division One North with a 1-0 defeat at home to promotion hopefuls Brentwood Town.

This was followed by a 3-0 reverse against Aveley on Monday night where the hosts scored all their goals inside a five-minute spell.
