Defiant Solomons rolls back the years

articlemain

An unbeaten century from Adam Solomons helped London Maccabi Vale get their Chess Valley League promotion bid back on track with an impressive six-wicket success at Totteridge.

Man-of-the-match Solomons capped an excellent performance with a superb diving catch in the field as Totteridge finished on 206-9 from 45 overs. Joseph Nyman, Alex Spooner and Joseph Greenwall-Cohen impressed with the ball.

LMV's reply got off to a stuttering start as two calamitous run-outs left them on 30-4. But Alex Haffner and Solomons steadied the ship to steer LMV home with a partnership of 177. Solomons finished unbeaten on 119, with Haffner registering his first 50 of the season.

South Manchester's GMACL title hopes suffered a blow as they went down by 17 runs in a low-scoring contest against Wilmslow.

South started with only 10 players and struggled against the league's bottom club. Steven Allweis (5-22) was the star performer with the ball as Wilmslow reached 147. Missing five top-order batsmen, they fell agonisingly short despite the best effort of Ray Tammam (29) and Allweis.
