Goals from Max Kyte and Danny Daggers kept alive Lions' hopes of a top three finished as they edged past Raiders at Brunel.

In a very tight game, Lions just edged it to take all three points. Raiders would have felt frustrated not to get something out of the game, but it was Lions back five that probably made the difference, especially the phenomenal performance from keeper Jake Doffman, and the outstanding David Nezri at centre half.

Lions had much of the first 20 minutes of the game, although they never looked comfortable. With half an hour gone, Yoav Lebens was pulled down in the box, and referee Warwick Blake had an easy decision to make. Kyte stepped up and clinically slotted home from the spot to take a 1-0 lead into half time.

Lions were still not controlling the game, and in fact Raiders still looked strong, even though both Kyte and Lebens missed two good chances just before half time.

Raiders came out the stronger team and continued to press, but Doffman seemed to make save after to save to keep Raiders at bay.

Lions kept giving the ball away, and it was another wasted midfield pass that handed Raiders their chance, and Esterkin levelled with 20 minutes to go.

The equaliser seemed to at last fire the Lions up, and after a couple of missed chances, Daggers volleyed home, following big Nick Landesberg throw that was flicked on by Lebens.

Lions hung on to take the three points but this wasn’t their best performance.

Lions boss Andy Landesberg told JC Sport: "We have played much better and got nothing from games, so I am more than happy to come away with all three points."

Rob Richman told JC Sport: "Today was one of those days where the better team goes away without the reward for their performance. We dominated the game but we came up against an inspired goalkeeping performance. Jake Doffman single handily won Lions the three points with the best goalkeeping display that I have seen as Raiders manager. We are all disappointed with the result but the boys should be very proud of the performance."
