AFC Flixton crowned champions

articlemain

AFC Flixton were crowned Division One champions to complete the first leg of their league and cup double bid.

Flixton, co-managed by Tony Rosenberg and Stuart Delmonte, cruised past Barclays 8-0 to seal their spot in the Premier Division of the Manchester Accountants League next season.

Now their next target will be to topple Deloitte in the King’s Challenge Cup final on Sunday.

Delmonte said: "It's a new level to us, but we have taken to it like a duck to water. There was no target set at the start of the season.

"But the bar has been lifted as we have progressed. To win promotion by winning the league is a fine achievement.

"But we have maintained our form in the cup as well. All our focus is on this final now.

"We will once again be underdogs, but the way we are playing we feel we can go all the way."

AFC Flixton made short work out of rock-bottom Barclays as they romped to the championship in style.

Adam Wilson and Stephen Peck grabbed two goals each. Jordan Hulme, Richard Walker, Dan Garmen and debutant Ali Steinberger also weighed in.

Delmonte added: "It's been our first season in non-Jewish football so the players must take credit for their achievements. We just have one more hurdle to jump."
