Abrams named MJSL Player of the Season

Bobby Abrams finished the season in style after celebrating his MJSL Player of the Year award with a stunning hat-trick.

The Haroldeans hitman took his tally to 24 league goals for the season to earn the MJSL Golden Boot following his heroics against Broughton.

Abrams, 22, who was also named his club’s Players’ Player of the Year, was in top form as Haroldeans finished their season with a 6-2 victory in Manchester.

And despite taking all the plaudits, Abrams was keen to pay tribute to his team-mates after claiming his side’s extraordinary team spirit was key to their success. “It’s always nice to win awards but without the lads I wouldn’t have scored so many goals,” he said.

“I think this is the best team spirit we’ve ever had and that’s been the real difference this season.

“There used to be a bit of segregation between the older and younger players but that’s not the case any more.

“Everyone gets on and that is why we’ve done so well. When you like someone, you want to do well for them and give everything you can.”

Abrams will now take his time on where he will be playing his football next season with work in Manchester and family in London two factors in his decision making.

“I’d like to say I’ll still be at Haroldeans next season,” he said. “I’ve got a job in Manchester while my brother is based in London so we’ll just have to wait and see.”

Manager Ivan Gee also confirmed that Haroldeans will be back to defend their title after finally quashing speculation that the club could leave the MJSL.

“We’re definitely staying in the MJSL,” Gee commented. “We spoke to the boys about it and they want to stay and try and win the league again.

“It has been a great season and we’ll be back in June to start preparing for next year.”
