Wingate & Finchley unleashed all of their centre of excellence youth players to represent the club in the adult Capital League in a tough fixture away at Staines Town.
The team included seven of their Jewish youth players aged 16 to 18 to dawn a new era for the club and for Jewish football.

Although the scoreline was 3-1 to Staines, it vastly flattered the home team. The game started with both teams playing extremely attractive football with Wingate having the better of the chances for the first 30 minutes.

On 40 minutes Charlie Nelson, the team's target man, was carried off injured and the change brought a momentary lapse of concentration which allowed a long-range shot that took a wicked deflection to bury itself in the bottom corner.

Wingate came out strongly in the second half and continued to play attractive passing football, but the hosts doubled their lead, against the run of play, as with a goal on the counter-attack.

Wingate still did not lie down and continued to have more shots but lacked a clinical edge in front of goal - if this could have been found then the result would have been completely different.

Staines sealed the game with a third goal 15 minutes from time before Wingate pulled one back from a corner to make the game 3-1.

The future looks bright for Wingate with a huge amount of youth talent coming through and the club's development plan to produce Jewish football players able to compete at the highest level seems to be bearing fruit.

The Jewish players representing the club included Liron Mannie, Seb Garber, Alex Davis, Sam Sollosi and David Smouha - all 18 - Jamie Nagioff 17 and Joe Sharpe 16.
