There is probably no easier target for a comedian than God. According to Eddie Izzard, if God existed he would have come down during the Nuremberg rallies and decapitated Hitler with a flick of his finger.

"Did Leni Riefenstahl catch that on camera?"

With the Lyric stage turned into an ancient prison cell, with fading Hebrew and hieroglyphics on the walls, and God's eye staring through the window bars, Izzard rambles intelligently about where we came from. His Darwinian lesson takes in the Stone Age, the moment when man became bipedal and other facts gleaned, he admits, from Wikipedia. Of course, we could each of us have found these facts ourselves. But only Izzard would personify the Ice Age. "I'm coming. Now I'm going. Here I come again." There is no better company in the West End.
