Music boss Michele Anthony has become the first woman to receive a New York Jewish charity’s Music Visionary of the Year award.

The United Jewish Appeal-Federation of Jewish Philanthropies has honoured Ms Anthony, Universal Music Group’s executive vice president, for her “professional accomplishments and commitment to philanthropy.”

Ms Anthony, who has more than 35 years’ experience in the industry, will be presented with the award at the charity’s lunch in June.

Money raised at the event will support UJA efforts, including a Music for Youth initiative, which provides children’s music education programming.

In the past the lunch has hosted performances from artists such as Alicia Keys, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Adele, Mariah Carey, Jay Z, HAIM and Jennifer Hudson.

Ms Anthony, who will receive the honour on the organisation's centennial anniversary, said: “Doing good through organisations such as UJA and helping artists bring their music to a global audience are two of my greatest passions.

“I’m humbled to be recognised by UJA and honoured to receive this award.”

Daniel Glass, vice chair of UJA, said: “Michele is a standout talent in the music industry – a champion for artists, with extraordinary business acumen and incredible vision; she creates new and innovative opportunities for Universal Music and its artists.

“We are particularly proud to honour Michele because she pairs that with her longstanding and deep commitment to philanthropy. She is an inspiration.”

Ms Anthony’s charity work includes serving on the board of the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children and being an advocate for women’s rights and supporting pro-choice organisations.
