Spielberg may make WikiLeaks, the movie

articlemain

Steven Spielberg may make a film about WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

DreamWorks, the film studio co-founded by the Jewish director in 1994, has bought the rights to a book about the organisation by a former senior WikiLeaks executive, according to showbiz website Deadline.

Daniel Domscheit-Berg’s book, Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World's Most Dangerous Website, was written after he resigned from the organisation amidst differences over how WikiLeaks should go about releasing diplomatic cables.

In January, he launched a whistleblowing site to rival WikiLeaks.

DreamWorks has also acquired the rights to WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange's War on Secrecy, the account by two Guardian journalists about the newspaper’s involvement with the organisation.

Detailed plans for a film are as yet unannounced, but Deadline’s Mike Fleming pointed out that “the impact of WikiLeaks is the stuff of [Watergate film] All the President's Men”.
