Olmert website is smash hit

A website started by the son of a former Israeli prime minister provided the most popular content on Facebook last month.

PlayBuzz, founded in 2012 by Ehud Olmert’s son Shaul, had 8.7 million quizzes, list articles and polls shared by Facebook users, putting it ahead of sites like Fox News and the BBC.

Either the Huffington Post or BuzzFeed has held top spot since trend trackers NewsWhip started compiling monthly charts in August 2013.

Mr Olmert said he was “very excited” by the accolade, adding: “PlayBuzz has grown because it includes not only content by our small editorial team, but crowdsourced content by our community of authors and publishers.”

“Content is generated by more than 5,000 major websites, blogs and brands, and then embedded on their sites and apps. They are the ones who help drive the buzz and our growth since this summer.”

The website includes quizzes like ‘Which Female Character From A 90's Teen Movie Are You?’ and ‘Do You Know All The Endangered Species?’ alongside ‘Which Yiddish Word Describes Your Personality?’ and ‘How Much Do You Know About Chanucah?’

The digital entrepreneur, who went to university in New York and now lives there, said his team has “cracked the code” to providing the tools behind the web’s most popular content. The politician’s son does not plan to stop there, though.

“Our hope is that the PlayBuzz platform can provide every publisher, blogger and individual with a free way to enhance their business by creating more engagement and virality.”
