Lego creator is bricking it for Pesach

articlemain

Children have played with Lego for decades, but now they can add a Jewish element to their fun, with a Seder plate, tzedakah box and IDF soldier (right) all on offer.

Yitzy Kasowitz, a professional Lego builder from Minnesota in the United States, is selling the models as part of his Jbrick project.

It has raised more than £4,000 on the Jewish crowd-funding site Jewcer in the past six weeks.

The 38-year-old has already sold out of Seder plate models ahead of Pesach. He said the overwhelming response to his creations had taken him by surprise.

"It's great to know that we have so much support and that people really love the idea," Mr Kasowitz said.

"I thought the Jewish market was lacking a unique, high-quality product which is fun and interactive, so we made 100 sets before Chanucah.

"They sold out in a week, and that experiment gave us the inspiration to move forward."

Mr Kasowitz, who first built Lego at the age of two, said his daughters Rochele, seven, and Adina Rendel, four, had inspired him.

He has also received the backing of actress Mayim Bialik, who stars in the award-winning TV series The Big Bang Theory.

She wrote on Facebook: "Am I dreaming? Jewish-themed Lego sets?

"I can get behind this Jewcer campaign 1,000 per cent and can't wait for my incentives to come: a Tzahal Lego man and a Lego tzedakah box!"
