Knife-wielding woman threatens boy at Toulouse Jewish school

articlemain

A woman has been arrested for brandishing a knife at a student outside the same Toulouse Jewish school which was the scene of last year's terrorist murders.

Allegedly shouting antisemitic slogans and appearing “mentally unstable”, the 51-year-old woman waved the knife at the boy as he left the Ohr HaTorah school yesterday.

The 16-year-old student returned to the school where he reported the woman, who was then arrested by police.

Ohr HaTorah made headlines in March 2012 when terrorist Mohammed Merah shot seven people dead, including Rabbi Jonathan Sandler and his two young sons, Gavriel and Aryeh.

Merah also killed Miriam Monsonego, the eight-year-old daughter of Yaacov Monsonego, director of Ohr HaTorah.

The 23-year-old French-Algerian Islamist was shot and killed two days after committing the murders during a standoff with police.

France saw a 45 per cent increase in antisemitic acts during the first eight months of 2012, according to the Service de Protection de la Communauté Juive (SPCJ), France’s Jewish security watchdog.

After last year’s shooting the French government promised to improve security at schools and public areas.

Then a presidential candidate, Francois Hollande travelled to Toulouse to express his "solidarity with the Jewish community in France”.
