Fashion designer John Galliano has been arrested in Paris after allegedly making antisemitic remarks.
French police officials told AFP that the British designer was taken into custody for “minor violence”.
Mr Galliano, the chief designer for fashion house Dior, was said to have accosted a couple while they were eating at a café in Paris’ Marais district.
The 50 year old was found to have been drinking at the time.
A police spokesman said witnesses reported that Mr Galliano had “sworn heavily” and used “anti-Jewish insults” before he attacked the couple.
The designer has been released pending charges but the spokesman said it was unclear what had prompted the incident.
"For the moment we don't know what led him to address the couple.”
