Jewish man murdered in Uman during festival

articlemain

A 19-year-old Breslov Chasid was buried in Jerusalem on Sunday after he was stabbed to death in the Ukrainian city of Uman. Two men, also suspected of attacking the man's brother, have been arrested by Ukrainian police.

Shmuel Toubul, who was due to be married, and his elder brother Rafael, were involved in a fight late on Saturday night with local residents.

The Toubuls run several businesses in Uman and their busiest time of year is over Rosh Hashanah, when thousands pray at the tomb of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. The family said that Shmuel and Rafael tried to get three men to stop throwing rocks at their car, and when they were unsuccessful, offered them money to leave them alone. But one man produced a knife and allegedly stabbed the teenager.
