Jewish child attacked outside Ozer Hatorah school in Paris

articlemain

A Jewish boy has been attacked and verbally abused outside his school in Paris, just a week after four people were killed by an Islamist gunman outside a Jewish school in Toulouse.

The boy, 12, was outside a Jewish school in the French capital when teenagers shouting antisemitic chants set on him and hit and punched him. He escaped with only light injuries.

The school was part of the Ozer Hatorah educational network, as was the one targeted by Mohammed Merah last week.

According to the school's human resources director, the boy was about 100 metres away from the school premises and therefore the incident happened out of sight of security guards.

President Nicolas Sarkozy called for security measures to be heightened in the wake of the Toulouse killings. According to Stephen Peters, a British member of the city's Jewish community, what happened at the Toulouse school was "an accident waiting to happen" because of the lack of security arrangements.
