Israel’s internal security service, the Shin Bet, said today that earlier this year it foiled a major attack by Hamas on the Palestinian Authority.
Shin Bet officials told reporters that Hamas had been plotting to topple PA President Mahmoud Abbas and spark a third intifada against Israel.
More than 90 Hamas members were arrested in May and June in a counter-terrorism operation carried out by the Shin Bet.
In addition, dozens of weapons that had been smuggled into the West Bank were confiscated, and more than $170,000 in cash – due to fund the attacks – was seized.
According to the Israeli intelligence agency, a series of massive attacks on Israeli targets had been planned, including at Temple Mount.
