Explosion at Malmo Jewish community centre

articlemain

A small explosive device was set off last night outside Malmo’s Jewish community centre.

No-one was injured in the blast which occurred at around 1am on Friday morning, but the residents of the centre remain in a state of shock.

The incident comes just a week after Copenhagen’s Jewish community visited their Swedish counterparts to express solidarity over virulent antisemitism in Malmo, originating mainly from its large North African and Arab population.

Malmo’s Rabbi Kesselman said: “There has been a degree of extra security during the High Holy Days, extra barricades around the synagogue, that sort of thing. It is as if they are saying: don’t forget, we are here.”

Two men aged 18 were arrested by Swedish police in connection with the explosion.
