David Bernstein continues to show how shortsighted the Football Association was to force him to step down as its chairman at the age of 70 last year.

He now chairs the British Red Cross, menswear firm Ted Baker, and this week added vehicle-hire company Vanarama to his portfolio. Mr Bernstein is clearly still in top gear 12 months after his "retirement".
