A supporter of Southampton football team has been questioned on suspicion of racist behaviour at last weekend's Premier League match with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 57-year-old was reported to police by two fellow Southampton fans during Sunday's game at White Hart Lane.

He was arrested and questioned by officers on suspicion of a "racially aggravated" offense.

The man was bailed until May 19, pending further investigation.

It is understood he may have used abusive language during the match and may have been seen making a Hitler-style salute.

Earlier this month charges were dropped against three Spurs supporters accused of using the word "Yid" during a game at the same stadium.

Debate over the use of the term has intensified since the Football Association warned last year of prosecutions for fans who use the term.

Spurs supporters have long-argued that their own use of the Y-word is a riposte to those who use it with antisemitic intent.
