Soccer fan banned for Nazi salute

articlemain

A football fan who gave a Nazi salute and promoted the English Defence League has been banned from football matches for three years.

Lincoln City supporter Peter Briggs was involved in incidents at matches between 2009 and February this year.

During a game against Stockport in January 2011, Briggs unfurled a flag carrying the words: "Lincoln City Youth, EDL, No Surrender".

Lincoln Magistrates' Court was also shown CCTV footage of the 19-year-old giving the Heil Hitler salute.

Briggs, of Lincoln, was involved in clashes in the city in July 2010 when Lincoln played the Scottish side, Celtic. Five people received hospital treatment and 27 were arrested following the incidents.

The Lincolnshire Echo reported that magistrates had banned Briggs from entering any football ground and had ordered him to surrender his passport to stop him travelling to games abroad.

Briggs must not travel within a five-mile radius of England games or be in the area around Lincoln's stadium for two hours either side of games on match days.
