Jessie Ware has been named Musician of the Year at Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards.

Jewish south Londoner Ms Ware was honoured with the prize at a ceremony in London on Tuesday night which saw film actress Carey Mulligan receive the Inspiration award and Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie win British Actress of the Year.

Ms Ware worked as a JC reporter before launching her music career. In an interview in 2012 she told the JC: “All I wanted was to be in a position where the JC would write about me.”

Her first album Devotion was in the top five in the charts and she has been previously nominated for two Brit awards.
