MPs set for Holocaust Memorial Day event

articlemain

Plans are being finalised to bring members of parliaments from around the world and Holocaust survivors together at a memorial at Auschwitz later this month.

More than 500 people will attend the Holocaust Remembrance Day event on January 27.

They will include 66 members of the Knesset, more than 100 Polish MPs, eight members of the United States Congress, as well as a sizeable delegation of British MPs.

The event has been organised by the From the Depths charity.

CEO Jonny Daniels said he was prompted to act while enough survivors were still alive.

He said: “On the 60th anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation nine years ago, we had 1,500 survivors in attendance; then on the 65th anniversary, we had 150. One dies every hour.”
