One of London’s biggest kosher supermarkets has announced that customers should return certain hummus and tehina products to the store, amid concerns that they may contain salmonella.

Kosher Kingdom in Golders Green, north-west London, emailed customers on Thursday night, warning them that there was “a very slight chance of salmonella” in Shamir Salads products which contain tehina.

The store announced that the risk was limited to the following items: Shamir brand tehina with an expiration date between September 16–October 3, and both Shamir brand hummus and Shamir brand aubergine and tehina with an expiration date between September 1 – September 18.

The shop told customers that if they had purchased any of the above products, they could return them in exchange for a credit.

In Israel, Shamir announced a recall of the products on Thursday, after it was warned by one of the factories that processes its tehina that a salmonella risk had been flagged on one of its product lines.

The Kays supermarket chain also confirmed that it has removed the products from its stores. Just Kosher, the online delivery service, has also sent a message to customers, informing them of the issue and asking anyone who has purchased one of these products to return it in exchange for a full refund.
