Likud's first openly gay Knesset member has told a British audience Israel has no partner for peace among the Palestinians.

Amir Ohana discussed Israel's political situation and his own right-wing beliefs at an event at Finchley United Synagogue in north London.

The session was organised by Campaign 4 Truth, an Israel advocacy group and saw Mr Ohana fielding questions from the audience.

He said: "When you talk about right and left elsewhere in the world, you talk about social issues, economic issues.

"But when you talk about the right and left in Israel, you primarily talk about the Israeli-Arab conflict and security issues." He said Israel desired peace, but added: "In order to achieve it, you have to have another side that both wants peace and that has the political stability to maintain peace."

He continued: "I am so sorry to say that we have none", citing examples of Palestinian Authority figures who have honoured terrorists.

In order to counter student anti-Zionism in the UK, he suggested "bringing a group of 50 Israeli-Arabs to British campuses during Israel Apartheid Week" next year. They could ask British pro-Palestinian activists, "who are you to talk for me?", Mr Ohana said.

He also noted in the field of international relations Israel had been "successful in bringing China and India to our side. When we see the African countries in the UN starting to vote in favour of us, this is the beginning of a change."
