Investigation into King David pool tragedy

articlemain

An investigation has been launched into the death of a 12-year-old pupil at Liverpool’s King David High School.

Oliver King died on Wednesday after collapsing from what was thought to be a seizure in the school’s swimming pool.

Paramedics took him to hospital but could not save him.

Merseyside police are looking into what was described as an “unexplained death” while counselling is to be offered to staff and his peers.

Oliver, a Year Seven pupil, had previously attended the Jewish school’s nursery and primary schools. A talented footballer, he had represented King David in football, athletics and cross-country running.

King David head-teacher Brigid Smith called his death “a great, great loss” to the school's community. “He will be sadly missed by all of us,” she said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Oliver's family at this saddest of times."
