How community can help with riot clean up

articlemain

The British Jewish community is being urged to donate clothing and bedding to people made homeless in the riots.

Tikun, an Orthodox Jewish social action organisation, are collecting donations at their centre in Finchley. The centre will be open until 5pm today and between 8pm and 9.30pm tonight.

"Many people have lost their homes due to the riots and arson attacks," said a spokesman.

"Consequently, they have had to be evacuated, left with nothing.

"If you have spare clothes or bedding, please consider donating them."

Limmud also asked its Twitter and Facebook followers to donate clothes for adults and children, as well as pillows, blankets and towels. Executive director Raymond Simonson said youth movements were also being contacted to recruit helpers to bring supplies to the Limmud office.

"This is a very simple, practical, hands-on, low key response to what is going on," he said. "We want to show those people who have suffered and have lost much of their stuff that they are not alone.

"London is not made up just of those break things, but those who try and repair a damaged world – tikkun olam in a pure sense."
