Floods crisis forces David Cameron to cancel Israel trip

articlemain

David Cameron has cancelled his planned visit to Israel next week due to the ongoing floods in Britain.

The Prime Minister told a Downing Street press conference that the flooding problem would not improve in the coming days.

He has as a result called off the intended trip to the Middle East and will stay in the UK to co-ordinate relief efforts.

His long-awaited first official visit to Jerusalem had been planned partly in co-operation with Conservative Friends of Israel and other advocacy groups.

Mr Cameron had confirmed his intention at a Chanucah party for Jewish community members last November.
He said the visit would be an opportunity to “show solidarity” and mark Israel's “extraordinary achievements”.

The trip is likely to be rescheduled but could now take months to come to fruition.
