Comic career takes off for a boy called Zoom

articlemain

Could JCoSS pupil Zoom Rockman be the coolest 15-year-old in the country?

Not only is he called Zoom, but he has drawn and published his own comic, The Zoom!, from the age of eight, and has had a regular strip in the Beano since he was 12, featuring his character Skanky Pigeon.

And now his work is being displayed at a solo exhibition in London's West End.

"It is really cool. Everyone is really excited about it," said Zoom, who lives in north London.

The latest edition of The Zoom! will include a new strip called Homeschool, inspired by TV espionage drama Homeland. The strip is set in JCoSS and features headteacher Patrick Moriarty, as well as some of his friends.

Zoom said: "I was watching Homeland and it was around the time when the Charlie Hebdo attack happened. There was a lot of paranoia around. I realised I was a target as a Jew and a cartoonist, so wanted to do a story referencing that."

JCoSS allows Zoom two or three free periods a week to work on his comic.

The exhibition will run at Westminster Reference Library from Monday.
