London's Annual Chanucah party in Trafalgar Square will not be taking place this year because of a clash with the Christmas holidays.

A spokesperson for the Mayor of London’s office confirmed the event had been cancelled, adding that it had been a decision made by the event organisers, the London Jewish Forum (LJF).

The first night of Chanucah coincides with Christmas eve, with the last night of the festival falling on New Year's eve.

However, the giant menorah will still be in its usual spot at the central London landmark, and a smaller reception is due to be held on December 6 at City Hall instead, with Mayor Sadiq Khan in attendance.

A spokesperson for LJF said the Chanucah in the Square celebration had been cancelled "due to the demands of the busy holiday period and the likelihood that many people will be away".

The spokesperson added that guests at the City Hall event would include: "Leaders of the UK Jewish community, Members of Parliament, London council leaders, and members of partner organisations with whom the London Jewish Forum works closely."
