A founder of Limmud, an award-winning TV producer and a former chairman of Ajex were all celebrating their inclusion in the honours list.

Clive Lawton was made an OBE for his services to the Jewish community, "particularly through Limmud UK". Mr Lawton co-founded the cross-communal learning charity in 1980 and attended this year's conference in Birmingham last week. "It's wonderful that people can be recognised for their contribution to the Jewish community," he said.

Businessman Norman Stoller was knighted for his philanthropy. The former high sheriff of Greater Manchester created the Stoller Charitable Trust which has donated millions to causes in the north-west. "We don't give money away, we give money back. It's a joy that we have the privilege of giving," he said.

Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women vice-president Jeffrey Fox was made an MBE for his work with Ajex and for charitable volunteering in the Jewish community in Newcastle.

Mr Fox, 81, was national chairman for Ajex for three years. He said: "I'm thrilled for myself but more importantly the recognition of the Jewish community organisation." He is the first member of Ajex to be honoured specifically for services to the organisation.

TV and film producer Colin Callender was knighted. A Bafta winner, Mr Callender most recently worked on the BBC drama series Wolf Hall.

Philanthropist Anita Zabludowicz said she was "delighted and surprised" to be made an OBE for her services to the arts, after founding the Zabludowicz Collection with her husband Poju.

John Joseph, chairman of Jewish Blind and Disabled, was appointed an MBE for work with people with disabilities in the Jewish community. He described himself as "particularly honoured".

Dr Michael Jacobs, the clinical lead in infectious diseases at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, was knighted for his contribution in tackling the ebola epidemic.

David Manuel Shalit was made an MBE for services to the City of London Corporation. The student ombudsman in England and Wales, Rob Behrens, was appointed a CBE for services to higher education. Chairman of Technion UK Daniel Peltz was appointed an OBE for philanthropic and charitable services.

Ann Summers chief executive Jacqueline Gold was made a CBE for services to entrepreneurship. Receiving the same award was Lady Shaw Ruddock for her philanthropic work with older people; and David Ereira for services to the Insolvency Regime and also to charity.

MBEs also included Alison Lewy, founder of mentoring firm Fashion Angel, Jeff Brownhut, founder of the National Outdoor Events Association, and Hedy-Joy Babani for charity work for disadvantaged children. Alan Gemmell, the director of the British Council in Israel, was made an OBE for services to cultural relations in the arts and science.
