Amy Winehouse's parents were told they could make arrangements for her funeral, after they identified the body and a post-mortem examination was carried out on Monday afternoon.

After a brief post-mortem, including a toxicology screening, at St Pancras coroners' court, assistant deputy coroner Suzanne Greenaway said she would issue an interim death certificate.

The release of the body will enable Ms Winehouse to be given a speedy burial in accordance with Jewish tradition. The 27-year-old singer was found dead in her Camden home on Saturday.

The coroner adjourned the case for an inquest hearing until October 26.

Earlier, Ms Winehouse's spokesman denied reports that the singer had been at a party before she died. Chris Goodman said there was no wild party and she was at home with her security guard Andrew Morris.

"She was in her bedroom after saying she wanted to sleep," said Mr Goodman. "When he went to wake her he found she wasn't breathing. He called the emergency services straight away."
