What could be more innocuous than a picture of a rabbi at prayer? But when this shot of Lord Sacks on official tour of Australia last week appeared on the J-Wire website, photographer Henry Benjamin was asked to remove it by the Chief Rabbi's Office.
Hardly the work of a prying paparazzo. Anyway, when the Chief Rabbi himself heard about it, he had no problem and so the pic was restored.
Meanwhile, I understand that Lord Sacks, who is speaking in Los Angeles this weekend, will be dropping in to see Saatchi Synagogue founder Rabbi Pini Dunner, who moved there last year. Could the Chief Rabbi be trying to persuade Rabbi Pini to come back to the UK as his successor?
