Technology has come a long way from the days of lamp oil shortages.
On Saturday, the Jewish Museum in London is posting pictures of menorot from its collection alongside the hashtag #sharethelight, and inviting everyone around the world to do the same; its sister museums in Girona, Rome and Austria have already agreed to take part.
Among items featured on the museum’s Twitter feed will be this Chanukah lamp, which was made by Moshe Leser for his son Yechiel’s wedding; while Yechiel fled to the UK in 1935, his father died in the Holocaust.
