articlemain

Go to the National Portrait Gallery between mid-November and late February, you'll find some Charedim staring back at you. Kovi Konowieck has been shortlisted for the gallery's Taylor Wessing Photographic portrait prize for his Bei Mir Bistu Shein series, portraying Strictly Orthodox Jews from the UK, US and Israel. The Yiddish phrase means "to me you are beautiful".

The £15,000 prize winner will be announced on November 15.
