A large proportion of the annual reports produced by charities must end up in the bin unread. So credit to London's Wiener Library, who have created something out of the ordinary for their latest.

They have attached a reproduction of the handbook issued to continental Jewish refugees pre-war by the Board of Deputies, which advised them to avoid speaking German in the street or "public conveniences" and to report to the police station on time.

It is an example of the documents which the library is making more accessible through digitalisation of its archives. The Wiener is also focusing on the issue of refugees with an exhibition due to open in autumn. "We thought this would kick it off quite nicely," said director Ben Barkow.
